I'm looking forward to cooking but I'm not about to spend tons on a 1 day meal. Thanksgiving dinner can be full and enjoyable, if you think outside the box with my simple tips on how to make your Thanksgiving dinner a lot cheaper.
5- Save Money by Substituting the Expensive Ingredients
Instead of buying Chicken or Turkey Stock for your gravies and stuffing, make your own. Use Chicken or Turkey Base for stocks, seasoning, roux etc. For about $4.00, Base does a lot and goes a long way. Butter is priced a little higher during baking season. Use it sparingly and save it only for necessities. Substitute real butter with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter or some other fabulous spread that's a lot cheaper and in a lot of cases, healthier.
I never got one complaint at my table when I have served Thanksgiving Dinner. I keep my menu items simple and advised dinner guest what to expect at my home.
Let's wrap it up:
1-Serve a meat other than turkey (sale meat)
2-Get produce cheaper at farm markets
3-Get bread products at bakery outlets
4-Skip the Cranberry Sauce and Corn Pudding
5-Make your own Stocks and Gravies with Base
I'll be posting throughout the month of November to get you ready for the big day, in my own frugal way. Stay tuned and remember, look good, good cook and entertain in style.
