Mr. Picky likes beef so he buys the cuts he wants which tend to be rather pricy. He recently prepared a package of beef short ribs, his way and I admit they were outstanding but it was not frugal a meal. His choice. I had to take my happy hips into the kitchen and figure out how to make a frugal meal that would stretch with other package in the freezer. Of course I went into recipe development mode when he wasn’t around and I came up with a hot and hearty soup. I’m being very quiet. Tip toeing in my own kitchen because I’m really nervous. Let’s see if Mr. Picky likes what I made with his precious beef short ribs.
Hearty Beef Short Ribs and Onions Soup
I know Mr. Picky won’t turn his nose up to anything that has onions and garlic. So I’m off to a good start. First time experimenting with Beef Ribs and who knew they would be off the chain?
In The Kitchen
I start loosing momentum by Thursday and a one pot meal is my solution for getting it done. Besides, we are enduring freezing temps and a hearty soup warms cold bones. I have never cooked Beef Ribs in my life, so this smart home cook did exactly what Mr. Picky did. I seasoned the ribs and tossed them in the crock pot on low. The low heat with a little water tenderizes the ribs and the meat falls off the bone. Stir occasionally to make it look like you’re really cooking.
You know a whiff of onions and garlic simmering will make you peek under the lid too. Here’s where the frugal part comes in. Use what you have in the fridge for soup fillers and be fearless with the spices.
Beef ribs have a fat back and a little marbeling. The bone on the short beef rib is large so you can fish it out of the pot with a slotted spoon. Beef short ribs render a lot of flavor and some fat which is perfect for a hearty soup.
Luther Vandross - Creep Into My Dreams - from Luther’s last live performance. Since we’re being sneaking in the kitchen why not throw on a throw back. Hunch your shoulders and Cha Cha real slow. Creep, creep.
So rich in flavor and hit’s the spot. Frugal Home Cooks, you can also add cornstarch and potato chunks for a stew. I think Mr. Picky will enjoy a piping hot bowl after work in front of the TV.

I didn't make a New Years resolution but I do a check list at the start of the year. So far, I'm failing at giving up potato chips. Don't judge me. Nevertheless, I keep my overall health in mind. I hit 51 this month and I'm proud of it. When I tell folks my age, they ask me to repeat it. I'm not sure what 50 or 51 is suppose to look like, but I gather that I've beat the odds. Ting! I don't have a secret but I do have a few must haves in my diet. I'm a big fan of Green Tea and I'm asking my followers to take a few minutes to read about the benefits and go out and get some.
Green Tea Benefits
You know I'm frugal and one of the least expensive things I can recommend today, is that you add a lil green to your diet and of course, Cha Cha whenever possible.

I've tried Green Tea different ways with flavors like citrus etc., but there's nothing like the real thing. A squeeze of Agave Nectar, your choice and it's on. I get Green Tea premixed with a sugar substitute because it's just faster than brewing. Either way, get the benefits. I grabbed this list from Lifehack. http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/11-benefits-of-green-tea-that-you-didnt-know-about.html
Green tea has been used as a medicine for thousands of years, originating in China but widely used throughout Asia this beverage has a multitude of uses from lowering blood pressure to preventing cancer. The reason that green tea has more health benefits attached to it than black tea is (apparently) due to the processing. Black tea is processed in a way that allows for fermentation whereas green tea’s processing avoids the fermentation process. As a result, green tea retains maximum amount of antioxidants and poly-phenols the substances that give green tea its many benefits. Here’s a list of some of its amazing benefits — benefits that you may not have been aware of. Some of these benefits are still being debated, so please do your own research if you want to use green tea for medicinal purposes.
